RESEARCH INTERESTS

Bacterial blotch is a common disease impacting commercial mushroom production across the globe. The disease consists of the formation of spots and discoloration on the mushroom cap, which ultimately decreases the overall quality and yield of the mushrooms produced.  Pseudomonas spp., including P. tolaasii, and Mycetocola spp. are causal agents of bacterial blotch, but currently, no research has reported non-Pseudomonas species being responsible for causing blotch in Pennsylvania or California.

My research aims to identify non-Pseudomonas blotch pathogens in commercial mushroom production in Pennsylvania and California. Gaining stronger insight into key pathogens responsible for causing bacterial blotch will enhance management strategies currently used to control the disease.
